Worldly Happenings

I have had quite an eventful couple of months since I last checked in with the blogosphere, some great moments and some not so great moments, without diving head first into the empty pool that is my emotional swimming pool (so to say...dont worry parents, I'm fine...Slightly exhausted but refueling in the comforts of the casa).

From the beauty of a sunset on the beaches at Waikiki,

to the lows of not succeeding (also known as failure),

and not graduating with the great friends I made back at school. With the brief overview of life as I have known it over the past several months out of the way, lets get to the nitty gritty: The World Cup. Every four years, this glorious event takes place and the world is hypnotized by the beauty of the game. I have delayed my return to the blog in order to follow as many games as my schedule will allow me. Unfortunately, Croatia was eliminated from group play and did not advance into the single elimination portion of the tournament. Surprisingly, this result may not upset the blogging dela-croat that is my father. He stated that, "I'll wimp out here and state that I have no preference. I enjoy both teams' style of play and while my land of birth tugs me in their direction, the underdog in me tugs me toward Australia." As a 1st generation croatian-american of sorts, I was emotionally tied to the ups and downs of the croatian national team as I tried to look busy at work (I only wish that they had a cool team name like The Black Stars of Ghana, the Elephants of the Ivory Coast, of the Sparrow Hawks of Togo).

After Australia equalized the scoreboard with a late goal in the second half and the Croats were eliminated from their group, the air had been let out of my proverbial balloon. Today, I checked out the verging one's blog only to learn that he didnt care who won. Say what?

I was thinking about how to tie in the ups and downs of life to the beauty of football/soccer and the agony of the same game, but it would have been pushing the BS meter a little bit.

In other news, it is good to see that the english hooligans are up to no good.
