My first true post dealt with the news programming here in Ohio. Well, I thought it would only be fair to show everyone the sports reporters from back home in the Delaware Valley Region. Check out these guys. Batting First and playing Centerfield we got Garry Cobb. I would not mess with this dude, check him out.

Heres a shortened list of credentials:
Cobb, an 11-year veteran linebacker with the National Football League, played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1985 to 1987. Garry also played for the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys before retiring from pro ball in 1989. An honor roll student in high school, he was selected All-American in both baseball and football by Coach and Athlete Magazine he, captained the football, basketball and baseball teams and was All-State in all three sports. Recruited by more than 100 colleges, Cobb attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he played on two Rose Bowl Championship teams, one National Championship team and was selected All-PAC 10 in 1978. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Sociology. After graduation, Cobb was offered contracts by the California Angels and Chicago Cubs baseball teams, but opted to play professional football.
(NO BULLET TITLES FOR G. COBB he's got a paragraph)

Second we got Vai Sikahema

Sikahema retired from the Philadelphia Eagles in 1994. He joined the team in 1992 after completing the '91 season with the Green Bay Packers. Ranked first among the NFL's all-time career leaders in number of punt returns and second in punt return yardage, Sikahema is also a two-time All-Pro.

and last but definetly not least, Beasley Reece

After a stellar football career at the University of North Texas, Reece was drafted by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys in 1976 and was drafted by the New York Giants in 1977. During his six and a half highly successful seasons with the Giants, Reece served as the team's defensive captain and was one of the League's fastest runners. Interestingly, Reece was a teammate of former Giant Ray Rhodes, former coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1983, Reece continued his outstanding career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

WHIZ TV GOT NOTHIN ON PHILLY BROADCASTING

Although I am glad to make short list of Dr. Gilbert's favorite blog titles, I have one objection to his description. Contrary to popular belief, Delaware is not just a small town in Ohio, but it is also the second smallest state in the Union. Snuggled between Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey, Delaware was the first state to sign the Constitution. One of the states' largest draws are its beaches. These beaches were once known as the nations summer capital because many representatives and senators (not from Delaware...no Delaware only boasts one rep and two senators...not many) owned beach houses there. One of the few distinctions and advantages the "Small Wonder" state holds is its relative proximity to the large, booming cities of the megalopolis. My hometown of Wilmington, DE is close to New York (2.5 to 3 hrs away), the Illadelph or Philly (30 minutes away), Baltimore (1.5 hrs), D.C (1:45 to 2 hrs), NJ Beaches (2 hrs), DE Beaches (1.5 hrs), MD beaches (2 hrs), and the Poconos (1.5 to 2 hrs). HEY, there might not be much in the old Diamond State, but we got everything around us. Another one of the advantages to life in Delaware is the lack of 7% sales tax that ambushes temporary Ohio residents, such as myself. I could go on, but....

P.S. Check out the DE beaches at Rehobeth Beach Cam and Bethany Beach Cam

My roommate, who is from Cincinnati, and I have both noticed that the quality of the news broadcasts in central Ohio are terrible. I am used to the broadcasts of the Philadelphia area networks. The elements are all there but it seems as though the central Ohio news shows fall just a little bit short of the class of news broadcasting from back home. They have the same gimmicks and promises, but there seems to be a glazed color to everything and they search for stories where none should be found. Maybe I have something against the hustle and bustle of Columbus as compared to Philadelphia. I don't know. We both agree that the broadcasts here in central Ohio seem to be poorly produced, childlike, and just unprofessional. For example, WHIZ TV broadcasting out of Zanesville. The quality of broadcasting that comes from the WHIZ television station just seem to be of poor quality. Check out their anchors on the staff section of their website WHIZ TV. Take a look at their two athletic sports anchors...I am not usually this critical, but it seems as though these guys might struggle to make a middle school basketball team.

I would to welcome you all, especially Professor Gilbert, to DeLaWarr's weblog. Unfortunately, I have nothing on my mind at this point in time. As such, I will not post my first complete entry. So, check in tomorrow. But, for now...do something more constructive.
