The No Fun League (NFL) Strikes Again

According the ESPN.com "NFL owners adopted a 15-yard penalty for excessive celebrations Wednesday after being embarrassed last season by Joe Horn's hidden cell phone trick and Terrell Owens' end-zone autograph.

The vote was 31-1, with the Raiders the lone dissenter.

The penalty will be in addition to fines previously in place for choreographed and multiplayer celebrations.

The infractions are considered unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The yardage will be marched off from the spot at the end of the previous play or, after a score, on the ensuing kickoff. If the infraction is flagrant, the player will be ejected."

That means no more:
Ickey Shuffle

No more John Hancocking

no more cheerleading

no more Dirrty Bird

no more "Doin it to you like Billy Whiteshoes"

this will leave players like Chad Johnson saying....

Looks like the wild antics of Terrell Owens will not be present much to the chagrin of the Philly phans.

There is less joy in Phila cause TO cant celebrate.

Whats Kan the LV Don Up to now?

Kanye West has kept busy. Check out his recent projects with
Slum Village - Selfish
Dilated Peoples - This Way
and Dwele - Hold On.
I am a big fan of both of his collabos with Slum and Dilated Peoples. His verse in Selfish is damn good. Plus he released the tracks that didnt make the album. There are a couple tracks that I think he should have put on the album like "home", "Half Price", and "The Good, The Bad, the UGly"

What Does the Future Hold?

What does the future hold for our blogs which we have put so much effort into throughout this semester. i have wondered about this for a while. Will we still check in with Scott after this semester ends? Will Alex and I or for that matter anyone else have a friendly debate or discussion? Will Ethan and Allison still talk about there tennis trips and results? Will E. Money and I continue our discussions about music? Will Dad still be alive? And where will Gilbie be? It should be interesting to see if our work just fades into black or if it continues on. What Does the Future Hold?

You can always count on Oregon

You can always count on Oregon to address an issue in an interesting and many times sensible manner. Example: Benton stops all marriage licensing.

Verve

My dad found a pretty interesting CD entitled Verve Remixed^2 at the University of Delaware radio station. I have never been a huge fan of house music and or techno for various reasons but this album is a "boldly assembled a handful of popular jazz tunes and smartly revamped them to the tune of chilled beats" according to one review. I agree. From the remix of Sarah Vaughns "Whatever Lola Wants" to Nina Simone's "Sinner Man", this album surprised me and was an unexpected listen over spring break. I say that because it is usually not an genre of music that I would listen to. I think that Dave might enjoy this album. Especially the track done by Dan the Automator of Dr. Octogan fame.

Doonesbury

Check last Sunday's Doonesbury out...

Cutting in front of the gov't

Getting involved in government isn’t that hard when you live in the second smallest state in the Union. We only have one state representative, Castle, and like every other state we have two senators, Biden and Carper. There isn’t much room to run when you live in Delaware, so many everyday experiences can involve brushes with these VIPs. My mom has seen Joe Biden, a very influential senator who is currently going after the MLB for their lax policies when it comes to steroids….but I digress. As I was saying, my mom has run into Biden at the local supermarket as well as the Brandywine Brew Pub, a restaurant/bar (no worries though, he isn’t an alchy). So, a couple days ago as my mom and I were sitting at a stop light, my wandering eyes saw the person next to me brushing his teeth. I found it amusing, so I glanced back a second time and I saw the profile of a familiar face. A third look confirmed my hunch that the driver of the adjacent car was indeed one of Delawhere’s two senators, Thomas Carper. So, I turned to my mom and let her know about our automobile neighbor. As my mom looked over, she began to say that Carper is very uncomfortable receiving attention. Almost on cue, Carper’s minivan inched forward so that his driver’s side window was not viewable. My mom and I shared a laugh as the light changed to green. The upcoming intersection is a confusing one as the lanes shift to the left. My mom needed to switch lanes to the right (Senator Carper’s lane). She signaled her lane change and needed to make the lane change. Carper seemed to allow her to make her move, but did not back off quite enough. So, we cut off Senator Carper because we obviously had more important places to go than our Senator. Who else has cut off one of their congress-persons? I will dare to say that I am the only on in the class that has had the honor.

On the edge...I like it

Well, I am spending my spring break here at home, which is not a bad thing. I had the chance to go down to New Orleans this week with a bunch of friends, but it fell through for me. So I am back here in delawho?delawhat?...yeah thats right, Delaware. Its good to be back here with the fam and all.

I noticed gilbie's post about Kool Keith and Dr. Octagon. Kudos for the post. A little controversial comments here and there is always a good thing. I must say that I havent heard much of Kool Keith's stuff out...I think it was his name, I will check it out though. Thanks for the tip.

3,2,1. NCAA Tournament here they come

FEAR THE TURTLE

The Terps pooped on Duke and their brown-nosing TV "analyst" Dick Vitale by coming back from yet another deficit late in the game. John Gilchrist is a god and he carried the Terps to their in 20 years (back when Bias played). In the strong ACC conference, Maryland beat the 3 seed Wake Forest, the 2nd seed NC State, and the 1st seed Duke in order to earn the automatic bid to the Big Dance. They had seven wins against top 25 teams this year. Finally, overcoming their free-throw troubles the Terripans were able to finally show the strength of their team. Watch out, here they come.

An Annoyed Telemarketer

I just picked up the phone and was greeted by the lovely voice of a telemarketer asking for my roommate. I politely asked "May I ask who's calling?" She responded, "This is ____ from the International Readers Club" (or something phony like that). Instead of breaking into my new telemarketer hangup routine, "Wait for it, Wait for it" and hanging up, I said "He's not available." Instead of a gracious thank-you or a somewhat kind good-bye, the woman said "Yeah Yeah" and hung up. I got a good laugh out of that.

A familiar Activity

Last night, I ended up playing a little intramural hockey. I must say it felt good to get back on the ice....i mean the court. I enjoyed the feeling of skating...i mean running with the puck again. Either way, I had a good time last night. My team (i dont know who we are) played against D Chi's team. Jordan (D-Chi) played last night. He made a couple nice moves and make some of my teammates look stupid. Playing any form of hockey brings back memories of when I played in a roller hockey league for my high school (we did not have enough money to fund a ice hockey team). It was a great time...from the pothole-ridden parking lot of student parking to the ice-like court surface of the Blue Diamond Inline Hockey Center. SIDE NOTE: Right now, my high school, Charter, is at the top of the standings in the league. Well anyway, I cant wait to get back home and get my friends together for an afternoon of hockey.

Just a suggestion

I was just trying to help a guy out and tell him about a new album which I enjoyed. And he rejects it....Understandable. Cee-lo Green the Soul Machine isnt for everybody. I would have appreciated a friendly thanks but no thanks. But instead, my taste is music has been questioned. Ethan is not a fan of Dizzee Rascal's new album. He said that "his voice is almost as awful as his rhymes." Now Ethan, just because I put that album on my select list as my favorite recent albums, that doesnt mean that I think it is the best album ever. I think that his unique sound brings a different sound to the world of hip-hop. With his british accent i find many of his rhymes hard to understand, but it is the sound that is created with the combination of his awkward (but for some reason, catchy and interesting) beats and his voice bring a new sound which you havent heard before. The album will grow on you if you give it a chance. All you need is an open mind and the ability to listen and you might give the man a little bit more credit.

To me, there are two types of good albums or for that matter great albums. Those that are noticably good on the first listen. And then there are those albums which are not noticably brilliant on the first few listens, but as you listen, you get that feeling that there is more to the album than what has appeared in the first few listens. A great example of one of those albums is Common's Electric Circus. While making the album, Common discovered some of the great music from the past including Pink Floyd, Traffic, and Jimi Hendrix. At first, the album seemed to be too busy and filled with too many sounds. But, there were many layers to the album and after each listen, the album became better and better. To the pop-culture music fan, Common's album would not be well recieved. But, the album was a very good one.

In conclusion, give Cee-lo a listen Ethan...you never know...you might like it.

The Passion of Christ is Creative Control

The Onion is always a source of amusing and sometimes offensive journalism. Check this one out: Jesus Demands Creative Control Over Next Movie. Here is an excerpt: "My movie about My life will be the greatest movie ever shown," Christ said. "It should be the last Word on Me. No more animated versions, no more musicals, and no more movies where the scourging scene is so violent, you could put it in Fangoria. I mean, yes, being crucified is very painful. But I can't see devoting more than, say, three minutes of film to it."

Jesus added: "My version will have it all: drama, laughter, a spiritual message, and a couple of twists that will surprise even the most devout. The best part is that it'll be 100 percent accurate."

"How can I possibly be inconspicuous?/When my flow is f***ing ridiculous"

I just got Cee-lo Green is A Soul Machine. The man is true to his word. Although, I have unsuccessfully written one album review, I would like to give my first impressions of this album. I am on my 5th listen through the album and it definetly hits you hard. The blaring trumpets and thumping bass lines of this Goodie Mob member certainly stick with you. Just a little note to Ethan: Go pick this album up too. It isnt as genius as Kanye's album, but it is a must listen.

I will end with a shameless plug of my dad's blog. Although my father has EIID (or Excessive Inline Image Disorder)...(I kid...I kid, tata), his post about his morning routine reminds me of the early morning commute to school. The same commute which my sister takes with him presently. My dad writes of 610 Sports Radio. Ahhh, good sports radio (a thing that I have yet to find out here). I can't wait to have a full week of WIP whining radio finding its way into my mind.

A Preview of Whats to Come

With this bright sunny day of spring, it seems as though this campus can see clearly now cause the rain is gone. Everybody seems a little bit more upbeat. Days like these have me jonesing for the days of summer. Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite summertime jams, Will Smith's "Summertime":

summer, summer, summertime
time to sit back and unwind

Here it is the groove slightly transformed
just a bit of a break from the norm
just a little somethin' to break the monotony
of all that hardcore dance that has gotten to be
a little bit out of control it's cool to dance
but what about the groove that soothes that moves romance
give me a soft subtle mix
and if ain't broke then don't try to fix it
and think of the summers of the past
adjust the base and let the alpine blast
pop in my CD and let me run a rhyme
and put your car on cruise and lay back cause this is summertime

Chorus

school is out and it's a sort of a buzz
a back then I didn't really know what it was
but now I see what have of this
the way that people respond to summer madness
the weather is hot and girls are dressing less
and checking out the fellas to tell 'em who's best
riding around in your jeep or your benzos
or in your Nissan stting on lorenzos
back in Philly we be ou in the park
a place called the plateau is where everybody goes
guys out hunting and girls doing likewise
honking at the honey in front of you with the light eyes
she turn around to see what you beeping at
it's like the summers a natural afradesiac
and with a pen and pad I compose this rhyme
to hit you and get you equipped for the summer time

it's late in the day and I ain't been on the court yet
hustle to the mall to get me a short set
yeah I got on sneaks but I need a new pair
cause basketball courts in the summer got girls there
the temperature's about 88
hop in the water plug just for old times sake
break to ya crib change your clothes once more
cause you're invited to a barbeque that's starting at 4
sitting with your friends cause y'all remincise
about the days growing up and the first person you kiss
and as I think back makes me wonder how
the smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia
all the kids playing out front
little boys messin round with the girls playing double-dutch
while the DJ's spinning a tune as the old folks dance at your family
reunion
then six o'clock rolls around
you just finished wiping your car down
it's time to cruise so you head to the summertime hangout
it looks like a car show
everybody come lookin real fine
fresh from the barber shop or fly from the beauty salon
every moment frontin and maxin
chillin in the car they spent all day waxin
leanin to the side but you can't spead through
Two miles an hour so everybody sees you
there's an air of love and of happiness
and this is the Fresh Prince's new defintion of summer madness

Glad to See them Go

So Gilbie assigned us the last set of rhetorical figures and I cant be any any happier about that fact. After being subjected to the speech for weeks on end, I can finally put that nightmare behind me. Everytime I read through the State of the Union speech I imagined Bush butchering the speech with his Texas charm. I have enjoyed the assignment, but SoU is done and read-out. Thank you.
